Unisource Energy built their new Class A corporate headquarters not only to provide a state-of-the-art facility for their employees but also to do their part to adorn an area of Downtown Tucson in much need of revitalization. As a public utility company, it was critically important to the client that the new Unisource Energy/The Tucson Electric Power corporate headquarters display their commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability by building a LEED Certified building.
The stunning, LEED Gold Certified building consists of a 9-story, 530,000 SF building with a 4-story main lobby, 1-floor retail space, 3 levels of below grade parking and 8 floors of office space. The exquisite lobby features a four-story atrium and a 40-foot quartz tile wall. Other lobby features include a steel and glass grand staircase that ascends four floors with landings that float in space, a solar hot-water system and 150,000 gallon rainwater harvesting system and raised floors on each story except the 9th to allow mechanical systems and wiring to be installed below.
The Unisource Energy/Tucson Electric Power project was on the fast track from the beginning. A goal for the client and project team was to have the iconic flagpole installed in time to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of 9/11 by flying the American flag. From team selection to move-in on 11/11/11, the project spanned 102 weeks, 3-6 months faster than a typical office building.
