I have been involved in Information Technology within design firms since 1997. Working in the field of IT offers some unique challenges; design firms rely on technology more than many other fields. Our “product” is the data itself, in the form of architectural/interior drawings, responses to RFI’s, etc. The infrastructure such data resides on must be as reliable as I can make it.

Because of such reliance on technology, there is a desire to explore new and innovative ways to make our work both more efficient and cutting-edge. No other firm I have ever worked for has embraced a desire to research new technology as much as DAVIS has. I enjoy learning new things and evaluating processes to see if they can be more efficient. DAVIS encourages this exploration, which is why I like working here so much.

My architectural career started in 1985 upon graduation with my sights set to conquer the world! My expertise in the profession lies in mixed-used commercial development and large complex projects – The Camelback Esplanade, Hayden Ferry Lakeside and Marina Heights to name a few. I also have experience with large scale CCRC  (Continuing Care Retirement Communities), which bridge the gap between resort style living and senior care. Why do I go to work every day? It’s simple, I deliver an experience built on trust and relationships settling for nothing less than excellence. That’s why so many repeat clients request me personally to manage their most important projects. My experience with mixed-use, hospitality, commercial office, retail and senior care make me a valuable asset for each project type.

I do what I do because it is who I am. I’ve always known that I wanted to create and build buildings, places and cities. Long before I knew what an architect was, I was drawing buildings and cities as a child and being keenly aware of the structures that I saw and experienced.

My path to become an architect was a straight line from the third grade to a Masters of Architecture degree from the University of Oklahoma. I never considered a different profession, job or career, because I was fortunate to know my passion long before most. I’ve been rewarded with a steady professional career in the architectural profession since 1978 in Texas and Arizona, joining DAVIS in 1994.

I enjoy giving form and function to clients’ issues and needs in ways that people can understand, use and enjoy for their beauty and comfort as well as their function. I believe, perhaps stingily, that it’s important to be a good steward of our planet and be smart about the resources we consume and their ability to be reused or recycled. This understanding led me to become a registered LEED AP. Whether or not the goal is to achieve a specific certification, the benefits of sustainable design, materials and systems must be considered on every project.

As a Davis Project Architect, I enjoy leading the collaborative design process that converts a designer’s vision into reality. That process includes owners, architectural and interior designers, engineers, specialty consultants and governing authorities. The production and construction administration process is focused on maintaining the creative vision and the functional solutions as well as maintaining the budget and long term value goals of the project. I consider my work successful if this has been accomplished, as it has many times over with office buildings, interiors, condominiums, banking facilities and data centers.

I’m a thoughtful designer with a passion for and love of architecture and interiors. I’m always concerned with the end user’s requirements and overall experience within a given space. I constantly seek inspiration in the world around me so that I can bring a fresh and singular design concept to each client. My ability to focus on small details without losing sight of the overall project requirements helps me create a finished product that is uniquely and thoughtfully designed. As designer Charles Eames said, “Never delegate understanding.”

I received my Master of Science in Interior Architecture from Drexel University in Philadelphia, and was awarded top prize for my thesis project. Since joining the industry, I have been a member of IIDA and I’m ardent about licensure for Interior Designers. When not in the office, I can be found on the golf course polishing my game that I honed as a player for the University of Nebraska in my undergraduate years.

Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, I moved to the Phoenix area after graduating from college in 1986, when Texas was in an “oil recession” and no place for a newly-graduated architectural student to find work. I was immediately employed by a firm called Cornoyer-Hedrick, thinking that I would stay in Phoenix for a few years to get some experience under my belt, then move back home to Dallas. I never moved back….

I joined DAVIS (at that time known as DFD Architecture) in April of 1994. My areas of design expertise include multi-use master planning, corporate headquarters design, speculative office design, multi-family residential, retail and municipality entitlements. I served on the City of Scottsdale’s Development Review Boards from 2005 until 2010 before joining the city’s Planning Commission in October of 2010, of which I’m currently still a member.

Invoking the clarity of functional expression combined with aggressively dynamic forms, my work is an elegant synthesis of technology and contemporary cultural aspirations. For me, architecture is an innovative art form with the imperative power to shape society and transform the world.

My auspicious design career began in Chicago in the office of Helmut Jahn as a designer on high-rise office towers, airports and acclaimed urban mixed-use projects such as the Sony Center in Berlin. I later went on to cement a reputation as a sought-after signature design Architect with a series of award-winning projects around the world such as the Bank of Mauritius and the Torre Paris in Santiago, Chile. My work has been widely exhibited and I have received numerous professional design awards including the prestigious William Van Alen Fellowship and multiple AIA Honor Awards.

I am an U.S. Army Veteran with many years of combined architectural, construction and leadership experience. I strongly believe my profession contributes to the betterment of our communities and society as a whole, and my practice as an architect has been a life-long pursuit of learning, creating and developing many kinds of architectural projects from conception to completion. Architecture is the culmination of form and function – inside and out. My experience and efforts are to maintain this notion and to always improve upon the foundation of architecture.

I joined DAVIS in November 2015 not only to contribute to this experience, but to share in the journey and vision of the company. Our vision encapsulates my core beliefs by pushing the threshold of design to meld with the human element and create dynamic, functional spaces. We share in basic values of quality, integrity and excellence. Where many believe in status-quo, DAVIS and I equally believe in growing from experiences good and bad, self-improvement and personal and professional evolution.

As a little girl, I really enjoyed puzzles and sorting objects into rainbow order. Growing up, I developed a passion for the arts and a love for drawing. Creative thinking and problem solving became my passion. To not only imagine, but build an idea is an amazing reality.

I believe the spaces in which we spend our time should be dynamic and inviting places. As a designer, I’m able to use color, texture and lighting to make a space beautiful.

I strive to make things better – better suited for living, working and playing. Design stimulates our senses and improves the way we do things. Great design delivers an improved, more colorful place to spend our time. Being a part of the DAVIS design team allows me to pursue my passion and create new ideas on a daily basis.

I felt the dedication and passion immediately upon entering the world of architecture and I was able to bring all my previous office management experience and accounting skills to the firm, and excel at what I do best – helping where I can.

I started as Executive Assistant to the President and Marketing Director, but stepped in when asked to assist Operations, Accounting, Marketing, Office Management and Reception. I would say I’m a jack of all trades, and a master of none. My main responsibilities as Executive Assistant to the Owners include preparation of proposals/indemnification agreement, solicitation of consultant fees/contract correspondence, office management, construction administrative assistant, travel arrangements and receptionist duties. As a child I had a fascination with my physical surroundings. The wonder of what made buildings stand up, and how cantilevers worked led me to study of engineering and, subsequently, the art of architecture.

While I has matured in the practice of my chosen profession, I never forgets some of my earliest recollections of the vaulted ceilings in church, or the volumes of space in the auditoriums and libraries in which I studied.

Today I continue to execute each project with a strategy for success – for both the built environment and client satisfaction. I am proud to call DAVIS home.

Design to me is the alloy of art and engineering. The process and execution of a synchronous solution of romantic and classical strategy. I always strive to solve complicated puzzles in multiple ways with designs that are equally elegant and efficient.

My strengths lie in starting with a blank page and working with clients, municipalities, consultants and contractors to create a successful project and bring integrity to everyday life and the environment in which we live. My extensive knowledge of local markets, municipalities, zoning and building codes are all distilled into a project from initial concept design to Certificate of Occupancy.

I received a Bachelor’s of Architecture from Syracuse University in 1995 and have been a registered architect since 2008. My career began in New York City designing high-rise multi-use towers and corporate interiors for Fortune 500 companies. In 2001, I headed west to Phoenix and shifted gears from the dense urban design of New York to working on high-end custom residences, community planning and a wide range of hospitality projects. I have worked with some of the premier developers in the country for Golf Course Clubhouses, Conference Centers, Restaurants, Spas, Fitness Centers, Boutique Hotels, Water Parks and Indoor Aquatic Centers. I joined DAVIS in 2004 and have been designing high end Commercial, Multi-Family and Retail projects.

I have always considered myself an overachiever constantly striving to exceed my last outcome. This quality pushes me to consistently create exceptional results and never settle for the straightforward solution. I have a passion for design and the study of built space, manipulating it to best meet our human needs in function and beauty. I believe exemplary design can improve how a company or employee performs and inversely poor design can hinder the capabilities of brilliant employees. My strength is collaborating with clients to establish premier workplace environments with solutions unique to each client enhancing their day to day experiences.

In 2002, I began my career at DAVIS upon graduating from Arizona State University, College of Design with a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design. At DAVIS, I have had the opportunity to work with some of the most unique companies on some of the most challenging design projects. My favorite projects are the unpredictable solutions that naturally evolve through the collaborative effort. I have been with DAVIS off and on since age 14, when I first taught myself how to use drafting software. I had a passion for design grown by being the child of two parents in the industry and surrounded by it since childhood. I chose to study architecture at the University of Notre Dame, spent a year in Rome, and graduated with a greater understanding of design in all contexts.

After spending a few years getting acquainted with the architecture profession in Chicago, I gained my Illinois license. I love Chicago because its architecture is full of both the city’s history and possibilities for the future, and in 2014 I became the first member of the DAVIS Chicago office. DAVIS has allowed me to spend time, work and contribute to the design community in two cities which I love and consider home.

Sharing this passion for excellence in design and construction also enables DAVIS and its team members to perform in a like manner, providing exceptional quality and service to our clients.

Since partnering with DAVIS in 2007 I have been able to continue providing high-level architecture to our clients. Through strong team efforts, thoughtful, creative and unique solutions have been provided for several interesting and challenging projects. My favorite challenge has been providing solutions that enhance quality, are unique, and raise the bar of acceptable standards while maintaining budget and schedule. I came to DAVIS in 1998 as an energetic young man with a thirst for understanding of how things are built. I’ve always been constantly aware of my surroundings and buildings with unique architecture were sources of curiosity for me. Even simple things like light poles would trigger a desire to know how it was made. This, along with my personal tendencies to problem solve and seek solutions, made architecture an obvious career path.

At DAVIS, I’ve expanded my knowledge of many integral aspects of architectural documentation, including building design practices, industry standards, building materials and standard detailing. Though many buildings have similarities in materials and methods, every building has its own unique features. Understanding these nuances, along with my knowledge of contract documentation, allow me to deliver a clear and concise set of documents directed at identifying the overall design intent.

I have tried to not be a designer, but I can’t help myself. A designer sees room for improvement in everything. I can be at a lovely restaurant with a beautiful meal in front of me, and be wildly distracted by another designer’s choice of light fixture, wall base or a vent intermittently setting drapery in motion. Designers care about these kind of details and how they effect not only our experience, but also the experience of everyone around us. We are fascinated that other people are able to work, dine, shop and live without analyzing every aspect of their experience.

Designers want to create an environment and solve people’s problems – is there something that is not functioning for you? How can we make it better? We are compassionate. In order to achieve a perfect design, a client’s needs have to be met and sometimes our personal vision must be adjusted to accommodate those needs. Designers must have the desire to innovate. A design should never leave our hands being ‘good enough.’ We continually ask ourselves how the idea behind a product, space or experience could have been better achieved. It’s a designer’s job to communicate not only their drawn ideas, but also their passion for design.

When I started my career in hospitality design in Los Angeles, I quickly realized that my design education had only just begun. A few years later, I relocated to New York and learned professionalism and how to engage demanding clients in the design process. I started at DAVIS in 2003 and found like-minded professionals eager to create environments, solve people’s problems and communicate their ideas and their passion for design.

Starting at a very young age, drawing, art, and architecture has been an integral part of my life. I still recall the question posed by my 2nd Grade teacher, Mrs. Borchardt: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” The majority of the replies would be considered typical for kids that age: fireman, teacher, nurse, astronaut and the like. My reply was a bit different…”arkitek”. Granted the spelling wasn’t correct, but I knew even at that age it was what I was destined to be.

Growing up, my dad had many occupations ranging from miner, truck driver and logger to milk and bread deliveryman. Needless to say, we moved around quite often. Living in over 25 places growing up, I was exposed to a multitude of architectural styles and building types.

I have always liked doing puzzles and in its simplest form, architecture is one big puzzle.

Growing up I was always interested in maps, drawing, physics, and vocational classes. To build a chair or machine part I always needed a drawing first. Visualization and drafting always seemed to come naturally to me so I went to school and evolved to where I am today.

I’ve been successful at architecture, engineering, and space planning. The biggest symbol of that success is being at a firm like DAVIS, working on projects that kids dream about upon graduation. At DAVIS, I partner on design, schematic design, design development, and highly detailed construction documents for Interiors and Architecture teams. Bringing all facets of a design together and providing a successful end result for our clients motivates me each and every day.

In 1986 I started my interior design career upon graduation from the University of Oregon with a focus on commercial interior office and financial operations projects. My first projects ranged from as small as an office reconfiguration to multi-phased 300,000 SF building restack and expansion projects in fully-occupied 24/7 buildings. I enjoyed taking these projects from the initial concept to move in – the more complex and the more ‘moving parts’ to coordinate on a project the better!

Regardless of the size or scope, every project is unique and has different goals. At each initial meeting I start out with a blank slate so my clients can clearly communicate their goals. From there I work to bring all disciplines and team members together to create the best end result. Throughout the process, I enjoy working hand in hand with my clients and all team members to collaborate on the goal of making the process as smooth as possible regardless of the challenges.

In 2009, I received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at The University of Arizona in my hometown of Tucson. I am originally from a small town in Montana and have always had a love for Architecture and Construction. My father owns a metal fabrication shop and I spent my younger years in the shop learning how to fabricate anything I could. After high school I knew I wanted to continue my education in Architecture, so I moved to Phoenix to attend a Technical Architectural Drafting and Design school. I then found myself working for several construction companies, from Coreslab Structures to a small construction crew in Montana building USGS offices.

In 1993 I had an opportunity to put my skills to use at a Sports Architecture firm, where I finished several college football stadium projects over the course of seven years. From there, I moved on to a large AE firm to work on projects for the Department of Defense. In the back of my mind, I knew I always wanted to return to Phoenix, so I was excited to take a job with DFDCH in 2004. I truly enjoyed working on large, Class A office projects and power centers for the next four years.

In 2009, Tom Zandler and I went out on our own. Over the next few years in the great recession, we continued to work with DAVIS on several projects. During this time I was also approached by a construction company to be a BIM coordinator on a large Casino/Hotel project. Having never working on a casino, I took the challenge. In 2013, I returned to DAVIS for the wonderful opportunity to work on Marina Heights and to again work with best group of professional people I have ever worked with.

“She designed a life she loved” – Anonymous. This simple quote inspires me on many levels. Ultimately, I strive to enhance the spaces, environments, and lives of others through creative design solutions that leave everlasting impressions.

I grew up in a small tourist town on Lake Michigan and was strongly influenced by artistic minds who placed an emphasis on the value of life, resourcefulness, free spirit, nature and strong relationships. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Interior Design with a Minor in Marketing from Western Michigan University before starting my career as an Interior Designer for the university’s Facilities Management department.

After that, I pursued an opportunity in Royal Oak, Michigan at SHW Group (now owned by Stantec). While there, I continued to develop my skills and knowledge in various design phases, and also achieved a Revit training certification. In the fall of 2014 I decided it was time for a new adventure, so I set out to Arizona and joined the DAVIS team. I realized at a young age that creativity was my only path, and I have pursued many different ventures to develop a well-rounded understanding of architecture and the design process. I’m motivated by the intentions of great design and my career has evolved around a dedication to implement spaces that inspire. I have always believed that seeing the ‘big picture’ in development is critical in the genesis of every good project design and that the specific design is based upon the guidance of a seasoned project team. The genius that flows from a talented team during the creative process is intoxicating and addicting, and I’m fortunate to experience it constantly at DAVIS.

Having been a part of many phases of DAVIS’ evolution since as far back as 1987, my differing roles have allowed me to help guide the company through the years. Serving in leadership roles in our Phoenix, California and Texas offices, I have weathered many project types and market fluctuations. As a LEED Certified, Licensed Architect my current responsibilities vary from writing contracts to designing, documenting and reviewing architectural and interior architectural projects in addition to construction administration duties. The opportunities afforded me throughout the years have further developed my conviction that creating good relationships and inspiring spaces will continue to drive the built environment to greatness.

Innovative Talent

DAVIS Professionals are highly talented and expertly trained in the latest technological innovations. Building Information Modeling (BIM) is utilized to illustrate, in real time, design options and how they potentially impact the overall project. Our LEED Accredited Professionals strive to implement sustainable design elements and materials into every project whether LEED Certification is a project goal or not.
